Just watched Milk. Key thoughts it triggered for me - Life does not end at forty. It can actually begin then. People say all the time that life begins at 40 often with a laugh and a twinkle in the eye and yet how often is it that we do not believe the very words we utter and our consciences call us liars.
And yet today I came away remembering that as a gay man, life does not have to end at 40 (or 30 or 25 or 50 - take your pick). That I am able to continue creating and re-creating myself.
The movie also reminded me that in the last few years I somehow lost my drive toward a purpose that went beyond myself - that was not focussed on just the job and the relationship and the friends but on a beyond because there was a world to make a slightly better place if only someone cared to.
Han who saw the movie with me was troubled as he was reminded how much still we have to fight for. But for me the movie reminded me of my humanity and strangely my sensuality as well.
